Taiwan holds event to remember influential Japanese engineer

As this year marks the centennial of the start of the canal s construction, events were held at a memorial park dedicated to Hatta in Tainan on Saturday, the 79th anniversary of the death of the Japanese engineer.
Chinese rocket re-enters atmosphere, debris falls into Indian Ocean

(Ju Zhenhua/Xinhua via AP, File) BEIJING (Kyodo) A large Chinese rocket re-entered Earth s atmosphere Sunday morning, with debris falling into the Indian Ocean near the Maldives, Chinese media reported, following concern over potential harm to people. The Long March-5B Y2 rocket, which carried the core module of China s first space station into orbit, had blasted off from the southern island province of Hainan on April 29. The core stage of the rocket is roughly 30 meters long.
Just days after the attempted assassination of the Maldives’ former president Mohamed Nasheed, a third suspect has been arrested, according to police of the Indian Ocean archipelago.
